Despite how fun this game is, the Devs are not at all interested in exceeding or even reaching the baseline potential this game has. They have a list of excuses but have nothing to blame but themselves. They consistently berate their fans for even slight criticisms and continously treat actual customers AND dedicated fans like livestock or worse, and show zero empathy for people who actually spent their hard earned money on the game for themselves an\/or their friends and family to enjoy. The game feels really great to immerse yourself in and the core game design is unparalleled, and yet the actual bugs and shallow development to fix the game or even bother building the game to the proclaimed standards the Devs themselves spoke about being confirmed as features with actual hard deadlines make me feel like I got scammed. I have over 1000 hours (1163) played. I wouldn't recommend it at all. Buy it used or on sale if you want, otherwise you will feel like you got scammed too. If you really are curious at least watch some UNEDITED footage of people playing the game. Not some theatrical highly edited production of someone doing a machinima\/skit in Dayz, but actual hardcore unedited gameplay. Most of the new customers who get into this game are hypnotized by the community who produces videos about the game, but 99% of the Dayz community videos are roleplaying videos which are rehearsed, edited, and pure theater. If you play the game on a regular server the chances you encounter hackers, or lag\/desync, or some other disappointing bug with DayZ is extremely likely whether you're a hardcore gamer or a casual.\ufeffThis game started out at $19.99, and climbed to $59.99. It should have started at $15.00 and gone down to $10.00 according to the Developers goals, promises, deadlines, lies, and overall community management with their lack of work ethic. Don't believe any of the paid shills who will tell you the common rhetoric such as: "DayZ never made any hard deadlines", "DayZ didn't confirm that feature or promise anything", "DayZ doesn't owe you anything if you pay for early access that doesn't give you the right to criticize the Devs".The entire purpose of Early Access is to essentially become an unpaid Alpha\/Beta tested and contribute on the forums and social media for the developers to engage your feedback and reports about the development. They refuse to acknowledge that not only are we paying customers but actually working on the game too by submitting logs, archiving errors and glitches and bugs, providing commentary and feedback, and contributing to the game itself with original ideas, not to mention all the players who produce mods and host servers and do community events like Twitch and other virtual groups where communities come together.I have a Steam Library of a Modest 20-25 games right now. DayZ is probably my favorite Game in my library to be honest. I'll say it again, I wouldn't recommend DayZ. It would hardly be worth it for $10.. DayZ is likely one of the most (if not, THE most) controversial games of all time. It pioneered a number of innovative gameplay mechanics that are still unrivaled to this day, despite the dizzying number of soulless knock-offs (and trust me, I WISH there were great knock-offs, I really do). Unfortunately, DayZ was also a pioneer for the early access release model for PC games, and all the wretched stigma that comes with it. All that being said, the truth is, this game is absolutely 100% unlike any other that's available in mid-2019 (believe me, I've tried them all). They all seem to mimic the game mechanics, flow, and structure of DayZ, but not a single one elicits a "feeling" the way that DayZ does. Many complain about the clunky controls, but I wholeheartedly believe they're one of the main reasons it feels so gritty and realistic. Starting as a mod for a realistic war sim was probably the best decision they could have made. In my opinion, that's where all the other knock-offs get it wrong. Everything just feels too...easy. Too polished. Too arcade-like. Too quick and easy to drop in and drop out. DayZ isn't always quick and easy to play, or to get a complete "experience" per play session, but again, that's what creates the mojo and the "feeling" that I'm talking about. DayZ just truly feels like a journey, and like a hardship (feel free to insert a jab at the developers here, haha). This review is just a messy stream of consciousness, so please forgive me, but I hope it helps this game find the right audience in a new player or two. A little background on me and the kind of player I am- I've been playing DayZ since 2013 in the mod days, in cycles. Sometimes I'll play 40 hours a week for weeks straight, and other times I'll take breaks for months at a time. I favor highly gritty, cinematic, story-driven experiences (do note that the "story" in this game is 100% self-made, and always will be), and I rarely interact with players and engage in PvP. Rather, I'm more of a lone wolf drifter, keeping to the outskirts of town. I get a rush watching other fights go down and following the action. Or even just hearing gunshots in the distance and hurriedly trudging over the next ridgeline to escape the looming danger, instead posting up in a mountainside nook to chop lumber and build a fire, making a simple breakfast for myself before setting out on the next unknown adventure. Hopefully by that description you'll understand the nuances to this game, and how despite all their efforts, no other game quite scratches the same itch that DayZ does. Anyway, I've rambled long enough, but if anyone has any questions about the game before pulling the trigger (pun intended), or wants to buddy up and play together, feel free to add me. Lastly, I feel like I just need to say thank you and bravo to the dev team. Despite all the ups and downs and the rocky road to 2019, I don't think people do a good enough job of voicing their positive feedback. They love to speak up when things disappoint them, but they tend to disappear (hopefully because they're just playing the game) when they're happy. I think you've done a tremendous job on DayZ SA, and I'll be a loyal fan for life. It is by far my favorite video game, and has been since 2013. Looking forward to future years of adventure. Cheers!. CHANGE THE PRICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. $45? Did I read that right? I haven't played it in 3 years, but based of the comments and reviews the game hasn't changed enough to even remotely cause such a wild price rise.. lol This game is not worth $60.. Do you want a PVP shooter like CoD or Battlefield? Dont buy this game! Do you like interactions with other players? Do you like investing hours in a character that might get killed from nowhere and Lose all your progress in a second? Then youll probably love this game. Youll love and hate the game for different reasons but after all its my favorite game of all times. No other game gets your blood pumping like dayz. It litterally feels like youll get killed IRL sometimes... I dont recommend the game for people with heart conditions.. Price is way to high.. In spite of past bugs, long development time, and cost increase, in terms of organic, open-world combat interaction, Dayz is the best game evar. Most of the bugs that remain are on modded servers. It seems that: -if you like royal-type arena combat with instant gratification (no stamina, spawn with weapons, extra loot, always daytime, etc.) then there are modded servers. However, these servers are still loaded with bugs, glitches, and comatose zombies.-if you like survival and open-world pvp then this game provides adrenaline packed, turd-churning combat that no other game delivers. However, it will take hours or days of downtime to find the weapons and gear that make those interactions truly enjoyable. Also, you will probably have to play on official or unmodded servers that, at this time, are rarely full or high population.Totally worth the price for survival\/open world pvp.
